Hello fellow Kubota owners.
The rear differential of my articulating Model R-400, Serial number 20756, 4 wheel drive loader/backhoe began making a clunking/rattling noise. I thought it was a u-joint but upon removal they were fine. I do not have a repair manual for the machine so I am a little hesitant to open up the differential to see what might have come loose. My question is has anyone had a similar experience and if so, what part was at fault.

I haven't seen to much here on those and we have had no troubles in that area with any. Best thing to do is jack it up and spin it both ways to locate the clunk. ....

Thanks Art, the wheels turn smoothly when they are in the air so the bearings must be o.k. but when I turn the drive shaft yoke on the differential there is a spot were it is stiffer to turn. I think I'll bite the bullet and send it down to the dealer, besides I hate the smell of that gear oil.

It could be the pinion shaft bearing that is failing. Cross your fingers as ring and pinions get expensive and with luck you caught it before they are hurt. ....
